READING, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team was defeated by a score of 14-6 at Alvernia University on Thursday afternoon.
Diana Caicedo provided a bulk of the offense for Neumann on the day, scoring four times in the loss.
Shae Risley and
Kaitlyn Conrad also scored for the Knights, who received 20 saves in net from
Gabby Curry.
The first half started out well for Neumann, as Caicedo found the back of the net three minutes into the game to put the Knights out in front. The lead would be short-lived though, as Alvernia stormed back with three of the game's next four goals to take a 3-2 lead midway through the half. Despite trailing, the Knights would fight back to control the rest of the period. Caicedo tallied twice in the final ten minutes of the half to put Neumann ahead by a count of 4-3 as the game headed to halftime.
The game continued to hang in the balance early in the second stanza, as both teams traded early goals. The Crusaders would score the first two goals of the half to jump back out in front 6-5, but a Conrad goal levelled the score at the 22:52 mark. Alvernia took the lead just a minute later, but Caicedo's fourth goal of the game knotted it up again with just under 20 minutes left to play.
The remainder of the game would be dominated by the Crusaders. While Neumann struggled to get anything going on offense, Alvernia rallied for eight unanswered goals to take home the victory by a final score of 14-6.
Neumann (0-3) is right back in action on Saturday, March 11
th when it travels to local rival Widener University. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
