Knights and Mighty Macs Split CSAC Doubleheader

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team split a doubleheader against Immaculata University on Sunday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. The Knights won the first game in walk-off fashion, 5-4. The Mighty Macs took game two, 15-3.
 
In game one, Immaculata put two runs on the board in the fourth inning. Neumann tied the game in the sixth inning. Eric Bergman drew a walk and Duncan Balara hit a two-run shot to left field.
 
It took an extra inning for the game to be decided. The Mighty Macs took advantage of a Knights error and scored two unearned runs.
 
The Knights battled back in the bottom of the eighth. Bergman reached on an error to start the inning and moved to second on a balk. With one out, Bergman scored on a single by Kyle Weller. With runners on second and third and two outs, Evan Emerich hit a single to left center to score Jon DelValle, the tying run, and Matt McLaughlin, the game-winning run.
 
Zach Youngberg started the game and went 6.0 innings in the no decision. Zach Cooney, Anthony Stricker and Josh Cruz pitched out of the pen. Cruz picked up the win.
 
Game two was another story as Immaculata's bats came out on fire. The Mighty Macs scored five runs in each of the first three innings.
 
Neumann scored one run in the first inning. Emerich walked to lead off the inning and came around to score on a single by Cody MacNair. The Knights added two more runs in the sixth inning. Chuck Trentler led the inning off with a double. A walk by Balara put two runners on base. With two outs, Joe Nepi singled to knock in Trentler followed by an RBI single by McLaughlin to score Balara.
 
The Knights used five pitchers in the game. Grant Wallace started and took the loss, his first of the season.
 
Neumann (16-13, 10-4 CSAC) and Immaculata will play the rubber match tomorrow afternoon at Immaculata. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
