Baseball Splits with Giants in CSAC Doubleheader

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team split in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader with Keystone College on Saturday afternoon. The Giants took game one 17-9 while the Knights answered with a 12-7 win in game two.
 
In game one, the Giants put three runs in the top of first inning, three in the third and four in the fourth jump out to a 10-0 lead.
 
The Knights put five runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead in half. With one out, Neumann hit four consecutive singles. With two outs, Matt McLaughlin hit and RBI doubled followed by a two-run single by Evan Emerich for a 10-5 game.
 
Keystone answered with three runs on the top of the fifth inning for a 13-5 game. Emerich hit a two-run triple in the sixth inning for a 13-7 game. The Giants plated four runs in the top of the seventh and the Knights answered with two in the bottom of the seventh for the 17-9 final
 
Grant Wallace started the game as five Knights saw time on the mound.
 
In game two, the Giants jumped out to another early lead, holding a 6-1 lead after two innings. Neumann bats heated up as it scored 11 runs over the next three innings.
 
Cody MacNair hit a two-run single in the third inning. Emerich knocked a two-run double in the fourth. The big inning came in the fifth. Nine straight Knights had base hits as they took the lead. Kyle Weller led the inning off with a single. Nick Panissidi knocked a two-run double in the inning. Eric Bergman hit a two-run single as the Knights plated six runs in the inning en route to the 12-7 win.
 
Patrick Graham started the game in the no-decision. Anthony Stricker came in from the pen and picked up the win. He went 5.1 innings and allowed just one run on three hits and struck out nine.
 
Neumann (17-16, 11-7 CSAC) heads into the final week of the regular season and will face Centenary in the last series of the season. The Knights will head to the Cyclones for a single game on Friday before hosting a doubleheader and senior day on Saturday.
