Baseball Clinches Postseason Spot with Win over Cyclones

ALLAMUCHY, N.J. – The Neumann University baseball team clinched a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason berth with a 5-3 win over Centenary University on Thursday afternoon.
 
After a scoreless three innings, the Knights got on the board with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Eric Bergman led off the inning with a walk and scored on a fielders' choice when the Cyclones committed an error trying to get Bergman out at home. Spencer Young and Kyle Weller hit back-to-back RBI singles to knock in the second and third runs.
 
In the fifth inning, Evan Emerich singled and scored on double by Bergman. Emerich doubled in the seventh with two outs and again came around to score on a single by Bergman for a 5-0 Knights lead.
 
The Cyclones scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. Centenary added another run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but would not get any closer.
 
Zach Cooney started the game and went 5.0 scoreless innings for the win. He allowed just two hits and struck out five. Zach Youngberg went 4.0 innings out of the pen for the save. He allowed three runs on three hits and struck out four. The pair walked just a pair in nine innings.
 
Neumann (18-16, 12-7 CSAC) will host Centenary for the regular season finale on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 PM. The Knights will celebrate senior day as part of the final regular season game.
