ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team completed the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) season series sweep of Cairn University on Sunday with a 4-1 win.
Grant Wallace improved to 3-0 on the season as he started the game on the mound. The sophomore went 7.0 innings and allowed one run on six hits and struck out four.
Bobby Sefick picked up the save, going the final two innings.
Cairn struck first in the first inning as the first two batters reached base. The Highlanders scored their only run of the game on a sacrifice fly.
The Knights answered right back as
Evan Emerich led the bottom of the first off with a single. He then stole second and came around to score on a single by
Cody MacNair.
Neumann took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning as MacNair led off with a double. He advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored after
Chuck Trentler stole second and the throw went into center field.
The Knights added some insurance runs in the fifth inning with two outs. Emerich started with a double, followed by
Duncan Balara reaching after getting hit by a pitch. MacNair loaded the bases when he was intentionally walked. Trentler was hit by a pitch to score Emerich.
Eric Bergman followed with a walk to force in Balara.
Neumann (11-10, 6-3 CSAC) will host Widener on Tuesday in a reschedule game. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
