ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team continues its journey for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championship on Wednesday, May 3
rd at 5:00 PM when it heads to rival Marywood University for a semifinal showdown in Scranton.
The third seeded Knights are fresh off a dominant performance this past Saturday in an opening round win over sixth seeded Keystone College by a score of 17-7. The game was full of milestones for Neumann, as
Shae Risley (six goals, one assist) notched her 100
th career goal and
Diana Caicedo (three goals, two assists) tallied her 100
th career point.
Kaitlyn Conrad also scored five times, while
Gabby Curry picked up the win in goal making six saves.
Neumann will be out for revenge against the host Pacers, who knocked off the Knights by a count of 16-7 earlier this season. Much has changed since that meeting on March 25
th though, as Neumann has won ten of the eleven games it has played since then to enter the CSAC semifinal contest scorching hot. The Knights have also won their past five consecutive games, doubling up their opponents on the scoreboard by a count of 81-40 in that time span.
The Knights have been led offensively all season by the dynamic duo of Conrad and Risley. Conrad leads the team in goals (57), assists (14), points (71) and draw controls (57), while Risley ranks second in goals (48), assists (12) and points (60).
Taylor Klever (18 goals, 4 assists) and Caicedo (29 goals, 11 assists) have also been excellent for Neumann, providing much needed scoring depth for the Knights.
Defensively, the team has been led by the group of
Brittany Cassidy,
Lydia Beckman,
Meghan McKewen and Curry. Cassidy has scooped up 56 ground balls and caused 31 turnovers this season to lead the team, while Beckman (37 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers) and McKewen (38 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers) have played solid defense all year. Curry has been stellar between the pipes all season as well, winning ten games in goal and making 171 saves this season to average 9.5 saves per game.
With a win over the Pacers on Wednesday evening, the Knights would advance to the CSAC title game for the fifth consecutive season. The winner of the Neumann/Marywood game will take on the winner of the other semifinal contest between Cabrini University and Immaculata University on Saturday, May 6
th.
