Baseball Celebrates Senior Day with Sweep over Cyclones

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a sweep of the Centenary University Cyclones on Sunday afternoon. Games scores were 8-7 and 12-9.

Centenary jumped out to an early lead in game one as it scored four runs in the first inning and two in the second inning. The Cyclones added another run in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.

The Knights started to make their move in the sixth inning. The first four batters reached base, capped with a bases clearing double by Cody MacNair. Kyle Weller hit a sacrifice fly to score MacNair. Nick Panissidi followed with a two-run shot that almost hit the softball field to get Neumann within one 7-6.

Down by one heading into the seventh, Evan Emerich, Eric Bergman and Chuck Trentler hit back-to-back singles. Emerich came around to score on Trentler's single. After MacNair walked to load the bases, Duncan Balara hit the game-winning single to score Bergman and take the come-from-behind win, 8-7.

Josh Cruz picked up the win out of the pen, going 2.0 scoreless innings. Patrick Graham started the game and went 2.0 innings. Anthony Stricker pitched the next two innings and struck out four. Kutter Endy went one inning.

Game two started the same as the first and Centenary jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. The Knights scored four runs in the third inning for a 5-4 game. Trentler hit a bases-clearing triple to knock in Jon DelValle, Emerich and Bergman. Trentler would then score on a groundout by MacNair.

Centenary plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend its lead to 7-4. Bergman responded with a grand slam in the home half of the fifth inning to highlight a five-run inning as Neumann took a 9-7 lead.

The Cyclones tied the game at nine with two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The Knights took advantage of the defensive miscue by the Cyclones and scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth. MacNair hit a two-run double in the inning.

Jerome Cevetello took the win in relief. Bobby Sefick started the game and went the first three innings. Grant Wallace pitched the next two innings. Matt Kelty got the save, pitching the final inning.

Neumann (20-16, 14-7) will be the No. 3 seed in the CSAC playoffs. The Knights will travel to Immaculata for a first round game on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
