Knights Battle in Five-Setters, Goes 1-1 at Knights Invitational

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team went five sets in two matches at the Knights Invitational on Saturday. The Knights fell to Moravian College 3-2 before defeating Rutgers University – Camden 3-2.
 
Melanie Malseed was named to the All-Tournament team.
 
Moravian and Neumann went back and forth in the first match of the day. The Knights took sets one (25-14) and three (25-18). The Greyhounds won sets two (25-23) and four (25-13). Moravian hung on for the fifth set win 17-15, to win the match.
 
Rachael Hoffman led three Knights in double-digit kills with 14. Malseed tallied 12 and Shayne Sullivan added 11. Carlee Herrin handed out 37 assists. Bianca Harbold notched three service aces as the Knights tallied eight in the match. Malseed also helped anchor the defense with 18 digs. Harbold notched 16, Hayley Glah 12 and Herrin added 11.
 
Against Rutgers-Camden, the teams battled back and forth in the afternoon match. Neumann again took sets one (25-22) and three (27-25). The Scarlet Raptors won sets two (26-24) and four (25-18). This time the Knights won the fifth set, 15-5, to win the match.
 
Hoffman hit .500 with 17 kills and no errors. Malseed added 16 kills. Herrin dished out 38 assists. Kirsten Longueira notched four service aces and Harbold added three. Glah led the Knights in digs with 15. Herrin tallied 12 while Malseed and Harbold each added 11.
 
Neumann (3-9) will open conference play this week when it hosts Rosemont on Wednesday. Action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
