Field Hockey Falls in CSAC Opener

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team fell in its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener by a score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Lizzie Yu was excellent in goal for the Knights, making 10 saves in the loss. Alexis Damask led the team with two shots on goal.

Keystone would start on the front foot, applying pressure in the Neumann end for much of opening five minutes of play. The Giants would register the game's first two shots and penalty corners before Neumann's Kyra Washington answered back with a shot for the Knights at the six minute mark.

Neither team would find the net until the 13:25 mark, when Keystone scored to make it 1-0. Using the goal as momentum, the Giants continued to press forward, outshooting Neumann by a count of 9-2 in the first half. Yu kept the Knights in the game with seven first half saves, but a Keystone goal with just under five minutes to play in the half gave the Giants a 2-0 lead heading to halftime.

The Knights looked to bounce back in the second half, but a stout Keystone defense kept Neumann at bay for much of the half. Damask tallied two shots on goal in the period, but neither attempt would beat the Giants net-minder and the game would finish 2-0 in favor of the visitors.

Neumann (1-6, 0-1 CSAC) will look to rebound next Tuesday, October 3rd when it hosts conference rival Marywood University. Game-time is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
