Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Takes Down King's

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team returned to home ice for the first time since December 2nd with a resounding 6-1 win over United Collegiate Hockey Conference  (UCHC) rival King's College on Friday evening.

Bek Lucas and Jackie Schneider paced Neumann's attack on the evening, each tallying two goals and two assists. Claudia Trionfo and Angeline Taiariol also registered a pair of assists, while Helen Cooney made 16 saves in goal in the win.

Without a victory in their past five games (0-4-1), the Knights came out eager to get back in the win column on Friday evening. After being held off the score-sheet for only the third time this season last weekend at Stevenson, Lucas got the scoring started five minutes into play. The senior forward sniped a laser of a wrist shot from an incredible angle over the Monarch goalie's shoulder and into the net to put Neumann up 1-0.

King's answered with a seeing-eye shot from the point midway through the period to tie the game up at 1-1, but a pair of late period goals from Jordyn Cholish and Lucas sent the Knights to intermission up by a score of 3-1. With her second goal of the game, Lucas now has 16 goals on the season and leads the nation in goals per game.

The second stanza would be the Schneider show, as the junior forward notched her 4th and 5th goals of the season to widen Neumann's lead. Lauren Vanstone also scored for the Knights in the period, as the team headed to the second intermission with a commanding 6-1 lead.

The final period of play was quiet from an offensive standpoint, but Cooney was a standout in goal in the frame, making 11 saves to seal the win. Shots for the game finished 42-17 in favor of the Knights.

Neumann (6-5-2, 4-2-1 UCHC) hits the road tomorrow to complete its home and home series with King's. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
