PITTSTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team completed a two game weekend sweep of King's College on Saturday evening, picking up a 7-0 road win in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Â
Bek Lucas continued to carry the Knights in the win, registering two goals and an assist to add to her team leading goal total (18).
Julia Fair and
Lizzie Yu were also excellent in goal, combining for 14 saves in the shutout victory.
Â
Neumann picked up right where it left off in last night's 6-1 win, dominating the opening period with a 20-3 edge in shots. Lucas got the scoring started just over two minutes into the game, but despite the huge shot advantage the game would head to the first intermission with the Knights leading 1-0.
Â
The visitors continued to assert their will in the second period, playing a majority of the stanza in the King's end. The Monarchs hung tough though, as their goaltender kept them in the game with 17 saves in the frame. The game looked to be heading to the third at the same 1-0 score-line, but a late goal from Lucas gave Neumann a 2-0 lead and a bit of breathing room heading to the final period of play.
Â
The Knights were quick to seal the game in the third period, scoring five times in the period to break the game wide open. Neumann received a pair of goals from
Katelyn Brown and single tallies from
Claudia Trionfo,
Kate Blad, and
Sammy Patrick in the frame as they skated home with the convincing 7-0 win.
Â
Neumann (7-5-2, 5-2-1 UCHC) is back in action next weekend with a home and home series versus Lebanon Valley College. Puck drop on Friday at IceWorks is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
