DALLAS, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in the second day of the Cougar Classic hosted by Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights fell 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-23) to Penn State Altoona and dropped a 3-1 result to the College of Saint Elizabeth (14-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-12).
In the first match versus Penn State Altoona, the Knights struggled in games one and two before narrowly falling in a tightly contested third game.
Roddy Rountree led the team with eight kills, while
Tomas Ybarra added eight assists and
Andrew Kelly chipped in with seven digs.
In match two against the College of Saint Elizabeth, the Knights got off to a great start, winning the team's first game inside a match in program history. Neumann won the first game in convincing fashion by a score of 25-14. Unfortunately, the team could not replicate that result in games two through four as the Knights dropped three games in a row to lose the match. Rountree again led the team with seven kills, three blocks and nine digs, while Ybarra registered 10 assists.
For his play over the course of the four game tournament, senior
Andrew Kelly was named as Neumann's representative on the All-Tournament team.
Neumann (0-5) returns to action next Friday, January 26
th when it heads to Alvernia University for a pair of matches versus Lehman College and Vassar College. The team's first game is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
