ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team used a big second half to defeat Immaculata University 95-68 on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Billy Cassidy netted 18 points, including five three-pointers, to lead all scorers.
Raquan Brown-Johnson was just a point behind with 17 as five Knights finished in double-digits.
Tyaire Hudson netted 14 points and sic assists while
Gemil Holbrook added 11 points.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis almost tallied a triple-double, finishing with 11 rebounds, 10 points and eight blocks.
Cassidy opened the game with his first of five three-pointers as the Knights went on an early 8-2 run. The Mighty Macs took their first lead with an 11-10 score with 13:34 left in the first half. Immaculata would build a small four point advantage, but two free throws by
Sean Havink tied the game at 18 and a layup by Hudson put Neumann back in the lead. The teams would trade baskets over the next few minutes. After the Mighty Macs took a slight lead, another three-pointer by Cassidy gave the Knights back the advantage with three minutes left before halftime. Neumann would take a three-point lead, 37-34, into the break.
The teams remained close in the beginning of the second half before the Knights started to make their move. With 14:33 left on the clock, Neumann took its first a double-digit lead, 56-45. Immaculata would get back to within five, 57-52, with 11:19 remaining. The Knights answered by scoring the next 15 points for a 20 point advantage, 72-52, to take control of the game. Neumann would continue to build its lead throughout the rest of the half en route to the win.
Neumann (8-2, 3-1 CSAC) will host Clarks Summit for more conference action on Saturday beginning at 3:00 PM.
