SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team jumped early and cruised to an 84-64 win at Marywood University on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
All five starters netted double-figures for the Knights, led by
Billy Cassidy and
Tyaire Hudson with 15 points each.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis netted 14 points and blocked four shots.
Raquan Brown-Johnson and
Jordan Collins each added 12 points. Brown-Johnson also handed out six assists. Nine Knights tallied at least a point in the win.
The Knights led 8-0 quickly, forcing the Pacers to call a timeout. Neumann continued its scoring and would lead 15-0 before Marywood would get on the board. Midway through the half, the Knights held a 24-5 advantage. The largest lead of the half would be 20 points, 38-18, on two free throws by Cassidy. Neumann took a 40-21 lead into halftime.
The Knights led by as many as 25, 68-43, with 7:29 left in regulation. The Pacers answered by scoring the next nine points before Hudson hit two free throws to break the run. With 2:12 left on the clock, Marywood had chipped its way back to within 12, 76-64. The Knights scored the final eight points of the game to come away with the CSAC win.
Neumann (16-4, 11-3 CSAC) will head to Hunter College on Saturday as part of the CSAC-CUNYAC Challenge. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
