NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's basketball team dropped an 80-77 decision at Hunter College on Saturday afternoon as part of the CSAC/CUNYAC Challenge.
Isaiah Wilmore netted 25 points in the game, hitting 11-of-13 from the floor.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis tallied 16 points.
Tyaire Hudson scored 13 and
Jordan Collins added 11.
Raquan Brown-Johnson handed out seven assists while scoring seven points. .
The Hawks started the game scoring 15 of the first 20 points. Hunter would hold a 14 point advantage, 29-15, with 8:31 left before halftime. The Knights started to make their move and scored the next 12 points to get to within two, 29-27. Neumann pulled even with Hunter at 21 on two free throws by Wilmore. Wilmore followed with a jumper to give the Knights their first lead of the game. After trading some baskets, Collins hit the last basket of the half, a three-pointer with 30 seconds on the clock, and Neumann took a 43-40 lead into halftime.
The second half was a different half as the teams would feature 11 lead changes and seven tied scores. The Knights final lead came with 2:44 left in regulation, 74-73, on jumper by Johnson-Chavis. The Hawks tied the game for the seventh time in the half and ninth time in the game on a free throw and took the lead on the next free throw for a 75-74 score. Hunter scored the next five points on free throws for the biggest lead of the half, 80-74, with time winding down. Wilmore hit a three-pointer with six seconds remaining to pull back within three, but the Knights could not get the final shot to fall and fell by three.
Neumann (16-5) heads into the final four games of the regular season, starting at Rosemont on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 PM as part of the doubleheader with the women.
