REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team returned to action after a month-long holiday break with a 4-1 defeat in non-conference action at Stevenson University on Saturday evening.
Jordyn Cholish scored the lone goal of the game for Neumann, while
Helen Cooney and
Julia Fair combined for 42 saves in the loss.
Neumann showed some rust from the month long layoff, falling behind 3-0 early in the game. The Mustangs outshot the Knights 20-5 in the first frame and carried the three goal lead to intermission.
Stevenson continued to build its lead in the second period, scoring seven minutes into the stanza to make it 4-0. Neumann fought back with a goal from Cholish at the 13:01 mark of the period, but the Knights could not get any closer before intermission as the game headed to the third with the Mustangs leading 4-1.
The Knights tried to rally in the third, but were unable to break down a tough Stevenson defense. Fair made 14 third period saves to keep the team in the game, but Neumann could not mount a comeback and fell by a score of 4-1.
Neumann (5-5-1) gets back on the ice next weekend for a pair of United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) games versus King's College. Puck-drop for Friday evening's home contest versus the Monarchs is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
