GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball suffered a 79-68 loss at Gwynedd Mercy University on Tuesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Raquan Brown-Johnson led four Knights in double-digits with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Tyaire Hudson and
Billy Cassidy each netted 13 points.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis tallied 10 points and 10 boards while adding three blocks.
Both teams went on runs during a back-and-forth first half. The Griffins went on an early 10-4 lead five minutes into the game. The Knights then scored the next seven points to take an 11-10 lead on a layup by Brown-Johnson. Neumann's run continued as it went up by a 19-13 score midway through the half. With 4:36 left in the first half, Cassidy hit a three-pointer for a 29-22 Knights lead. The Griffins would connect on three straight baskets from beyond the arc on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 31.
Gemil Holbrook hit his own three-pointer as Neumann went back up by three. Gwynedd Mercy scored seven of the final 10 points to take a 38-37 lead into the break.
The first 10 minutes of the second half remained close with four tied scores. The Griffins started to take control of the game just after the midway mark. With a two point game, 54-52, Gwynedd Mercy went on a 9-0 run, 63-52, over the next three minutes that was broken by two free throws by Brown-Johnson. The Knights would get to within six, 69-63, on a three-pointer by Cassidy with 3:31 on the clock. The Griffins would keep the Knights at arms length for the final three minutes to hold on for the win.
Neumann (9-3, 4-2 CSAC) will return home on Thursday for CSAC action against Cairn University. The game is slated to get underway at 8:00 PM.
