ASTON, Pa. – The No. 4 seeded Neumann University field hockey team defeated No. 5 seeded Cabrini University in overtime in an Atlantic East Conference first round match-up on Monday afternoon.
Chelsea Kulesza scored two goals and added an assist for the Knights.
Lizzie Yu made eight saves in net.
Sam Picker scored the game-winner with 2:10 left in the first overtime. Picker took the ball to the net after a corner and scored to send the Knights to the semifinals.
Colleen Hoy opened the scoring in the sixth minute off a pass from Kulesza. Kulesza then put the Knights up 2-0 in the 14
th minute. Neumann took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Early in the second half, the Cavaliers cut the lead in half. Kulesza answered by netting her second goal of the game six minutes later to take back the two-goal lead, 3-1.
In the 48
th minute, Cabrini scored for a 3-2 game. The Cavaliers scored in the final minute to tie the game at three and send the game to overtime.
Neumann (9-7) will head to No. 1 seeded Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday for semifinal action.
