ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team defeated Immaculata University 3-0 on Tuesday evening in an Atlantic East Conference first round match. Set scores were 25-22, 25-10 and 25-16.
Rachel Cray tallied her 2,000
th career assist in the win, finishing with 15.
Alex Koppany added 17 assists and five service aces.
Bre Hickey had 11 kills in the win and
Melanie Malseed added 10.
Hayley Glah notched 17 digs and Malseed had 14.
The Knights scored the first four points of the match, with the first two coming on service aces by Koppany. With Neumann leading 13-7, Immaculata scored the next seven points to take a 14-13 lead. The teams then traded service errors and the Mighty Macs built at 16-14 advantage. The Knights responded with four straight points, including two more service aces by Koppany, to take back the lead, 18-16.
The teams traded points and were knotted at 22. A service ace at
Carlee Herrin, a kill by Hickey and an attack error by the Mighty Macs gave the Knights the 25-22 first set win.
In the second set, Neumann took an 11-1 lead to start the set and cruised to the 25-10 win. In the third set, the Knights again jumped out to an early lead, 9-1. A kill by
Rachael Hoffman to make the score 23-11 gave Cray her 2,000
th career assist. A service ace by
Kirsten Longueira sealed the match for the Knights.
Neumann (16-15) will head to Marymount University for semifinal action on Thursday evening beginning at 7:00 PM.
