ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell to Rowan University 88-87 in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday evening.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis notched a double-double with 25 points and 17 rebounds while adding three blocks.
Mark Perry netted 17 points off the bench and went 9-for-11 from the line.
Raquan Brown-Johnson added 11 points.
Rowan opened the game on fire and scored the first 17 points of the contest over the first three minutes. Johnson-Chavis put Neumann on the board 3:30 into the game. Over the next four and a half minutes, the Knights chipped into the Profs lead for a 26-16 score. With a 38-29 score and five minutes left before halftime, Neumann went on a 13-4 run to tie the game at 42. The teams went into the locker rooms knotted at 45.
The first part of the second half featured four ties scores and three lead changes. The biggest lead was just four points. Midway through the half, the Knights held a slim 64-62 lead. The Profs hit one free throw before the teams went on a three minute scoreless drought.
The basket to break the drought was a three-pointer by Rowan to take a 66-64 lead. The Profs then built a 73-65 advantage. The Knights would try and battle back but could not get the key basket. Rowan hit key free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Neumann (2-2) will participate in the Stockton Classic this weekend. The Knights will face Farmingdale State College on Saturday at 7:00PM in their first game of the Classic.
