Men's Hockey Stumbles at Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell on the road at Stevenson University in United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) on Saturday night by a score of 4-3.

Zac Boyle, Glenn Florczak and Ryan Swain all scored for Neumann, while Sammy Bernard made 46 saves in goal in the loss.

After seeing last night's game postponed at Chatham, Neumann looked to pick up much needed points on the road versus the Mustangs. Things did not start as planned when Stevenson scored at the 8:45 mark to go up 1-0, but the Knights would respond with some solid play the remainder of the period. Neumann answered back right away with a goal from Boyle just 1:11 after the Mustangs goal, then took the lead at 17:24 with a goal from Florczak to take a 2-1 lead heading into the dressing room.

The second stanza would be all Stevenson. The Mustangs outshot the Knights 28-7 in the frame, using several power-plays to their advantage. The hosts registered three goals on the man advantage to take a two goal lead to the final period at 4-2.

Despite the late deficit, Neumann fought hard to get back into the game in the final frame. Swain scored midway through the period to bring the score back to 4-3, but that was as close as the visitors would get. The Knights pulled Bernard late in the game to get an extra attacker, but Stevenson was able to hang on and clinch the 4-3 win.

Neumann (0-5-2, 0-3-2 UCHC) will look to bounce back next Friday when the team heads to Wisconsin for a game versus Lawrence University. Puck-drop is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
