GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated York College of Pennsylvania 82-77 in the consolation game at the Stockton Classic on Sunday afternoon.
Raquan Brown-Johnson led the Knights with 29 points.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis added 22 points and
Isaiah Wilmore added 15.
After the team traded baskets to open the game, the Spartans went on a 10-4 run to take a 12-6 advantage. The Knights pulled back to within one, 32-31, on a layup by Wilmore with three minutes left before halftime. York answered with two three-pointers to extend its lead again. The Spartans took a 43-38 lead at the break.
The Spartans held a lead as large as 10 points throughout the second half. With 4:30 left in regulation, Brown-Johnson tied the game at 71. The junior followed with two free throws to put the Knights in the lead. Neumann added five more points to take a 78-71 lead as the clock ticked into the final two minutes. A three-pointer by the Spartans made it a two-point game, 79-77, with 25 ticks remaining. A jumper by
Waheem Lowman and a free throw by
Jaquan Johnson gave the Knights the cushion for the come-from-behind win.
Neumann (3-3) will return home to host Valley Forge on Tuesday. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
