ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team played its home opener on Friday evening, falling by a score of 7-1 to number one ranked Elmira College in United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
 
Helen Cooney was outstanding in goal for Neumann in the loss, stopping 60 shots. Jordyn Cholish scored the lone goal of the game for the Knights.
 
Elmira showed why it is top ranked team in the country early, out-shooting the Knights by a count of 24-4 in the opening 20 minutes. Luckily for the Knights though, Cooney was at her best in the first frame, stopping 22 Soaring Eagle shots to keep Neumann in the game. Despite the heavy shot disparity, the Knights headed to intermission down by just a goal after Cholish tallied at the 14:05 mark of the period.
 
Unfortunately for the hosts, that would be the final offense the team could generate. Elmira upped the pressure even more in the second period, recording two goals on twenty shots to take a 4-1 lead into the final period of play. The Soaring Eagles then closed out the game with three third period goals to clinch the comfortable 7-1 win.
 
Neumann (0-3-0, 0-1-0 UCHC) will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon when the two teams meet again. Puck-drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
