Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Outlasted by Elmira

ASTON, Pa .- Despite a valiant effort, the Neumann University women's ice hockey team dropped its second consecutive game to No. 1 Elmira College by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.

Jackie Schneider scored for Neumann in the loss, while Helen Cooney made 49 saves in goal.

The Knights battled hard against the Soaring Eagles, holding them scoreless for the first period despite being outshot by a count of 16-5. Cooney was outstanding in the period, stopping every shot she faced in the frame.

Neumann continued to stymie the Elmira attack until late in the second period. The Soaring Eagles finally broke the deadlock at the 15:53 mark of the stanza and carried the 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Knights worked hard to keep the Elmira advantage to just one goal throughout the third period and pulled Cooney late in the game in an effort to tie the contest up. Unfortunately, the Soaring Eagles tallied an empty-netter at the 18:35 mark to seal the win for the visitors. The Knights tried to battle back with a Schneider goal off a feed from Steph Grundy at 19:40, but that was as close as they'd get as the game finished 2-1. Shots for the game finished 51-11 in favor of Elmira.

Neumann (0-4, 0-2 UCHC) will return to action next weekend for a home UCHC contest versus Wilkes University on Saturday, November 10th. Puck-drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
