Men's Hockey Drops Second Contest in Wisconsin

DEPERE, Wisc. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team came up just short in its bid to upset defending national champion No. 3/5 St. Norbert College on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 4-1 on the road in Wisconsin.

Thomas Mansbridge led the Neumann attack on the day with the team's lone goal, while Sammy Bernard was stellar in net with 41 saves in the loss.

Much like yesterday's contest at Lawrence, the Knights opened the game with a hot start. An early St. Norbert tripping penalty gave Neumann an early power-play that it would take advantage of. Mansbridge found the back of the net off a feed from Glenn Florczak just 1:44 into play to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the lead would be short-lived, as the Green Knights tallied five minutes later to even the matchup at 1-1. The game would head to intermission at the same score with St. Norbert holding a slight 12-10 edge in shots.

The Knights played a solid second period, but despite earning two power play chances they could not break through with another goal. Despite playing much of the period in the Green Knights' end, Neumann conceded a short-handed goal midway through the period that made it 2-1 in favor of the hosts as the game moved to the final frame.

Neumann looked for an equalizing marker throughout the third, but as the game wore on St. Norbert began to take a stranglehold of the contest. Midway through the period, the Green Knights finally put the game out of reach. The hosts scored on a penalty shot at the 9:46 mark, then added an insurance tally with two minutes remaining to seal the 4-1 win. Shots for the game finished 45-28 in favor of St. Norbert.

Neumann (0-7-2) will look to find the win column when it returns back to Aston for United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) action on Friday, November 30th versus King's College. Puck-drop is slated for 7:00 PM.
