READING, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Susquehanna University 63-60 on Saturday afternoon on the first day of the 2018 Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament, hosted by Albright College.
The Knights were led by
Mark Perry, who tallied a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Raquan Brown-Johnson netted 16 points and
Isaiah Wilmore added 11 points off of the bench.
The teams remained close in the first half with five tied scores and five lead changes. Brown-Johnson and Perry hit the last two jumpers of the first half and the Knights took a 26-23 lead into halftime.
Midway through the second half, the Knights built up an eight point lead, 42-34, the largest of the game. With just under seven minutes left in regulation, the River Hawks took lead and built a five point advantage. Neumann netted the next five points to pull even. The teams then traded baskets and were tied at 60 with three minutes on the clock.
Waheem Lowman broke the tie with a layup with 1:46 remaining. Wilmore went 1-for-2 from the free throw line with six seconds on the clock for a three-point game. Susquehanna attempted to tie the game as the buzzer sounded, but the shot didn't fall and the Knights held on for the 63-60 win.
Neumann (8-4) will play in the Championship game tomorrow against Rosemont College. The Ravens defeated host Albright College 73-65 in the other game on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 PM.
