READING, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team edged Rosemont College 68-67 in overtime in the Championship game of the 2018 Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament, hosted by Albright College, on Sunday afternoon.
Raquan Brown-Johnson was named the tournament MVP and
Waheem Lowman joined him on the All-Tournament team. Brown-Johnson netted 22 points to lead the Knights. Lowman added 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The game came down to the final play. With the game tied at 67, the Ravens had the ball and got off a shot before the buzzer.
Jordan Collins grabbed the rebound on the missed shot and was fouled. He went to the line with a second left on the clock. After missing the first shot, Collins made the second shot for the 68-67 score. Rosemont could not get another shot off and Neumann came away with the one point win.
The Knights held the pace for most of the first half and built up an 11 point lead, 31-20, with 2:23 left in the half. The Ravens finished the half on a 7-0 run and Neumann took a 31-27 advantage into halftime.
The teams went back and forth throughout the second half with nine lead changes and six tied scores. Brown-Johnson hit a layup with 11 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 61. The Ravens missed the final shot of regulation and the teams went into overtime.
Neumann (9-4) will return home on Thursday for its first game of 2019. The Knights will host Franklin & Marshall beginning at 7:00 PM.
