DALLAS, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team held off a second half surge by Misericordia University and came away with a 65-63 win on Monday evening.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis tallied a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The sophomore added four blocks.
Raquan Brown-Johnson netted 12 points while
Isaiah Wilmore scored 11 points.
Neumann held the pace of the game in the first half and with 11:18 left in the first took its first double-digit lead, 19-8. With five minutes left before halftime, the Knights took a 23-17 advantage and ended the half on a 10-0 run for a 33-17 lead at the break.
The Cougars began chipping into the Knights lead over the first part of the second half and with 9:21 on the clock had pulled to within one, 47-46. Two free-throws by Johnson-Chavis started a 9-0 run for Neumann to go back up by 10, 56-46.
Misericordia answered with another run to get within three, 58-55, with just under four minutes remaining regulation. Two free throws by
Mark Perry and two by Brown-Johnson put some more space between the teams, but the Cougars hit a three-pointer and a jumper for a 62-60 game with 44 ticks on the clock.
With 18 seconds remaining, Brown-Johnson hit a jumper for a four point lead. The Cougars were then fouled on a three-point attempt and converted all three free throws to pull back within one.
Waheem Lowman went 1-for-2 at the free throw line with four seconds remaining. After each team took a timeout, time ran out and the Knights hung on for the win.
Neumann (6-4) will play its final home game of 2018 on Saturday when it hosts Bryn Athyn. Action gets underway at 2:00 PM.
