ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team fell in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action on Friday evening to third ranked Elmira College by a score of 4-0.
Bek Lucas and
Claudia Trionfo led the Knights with three shots on the evening, while goalie
Julia Fair stopped 39 saves in the loss.
The opening period would be relatively uneventful, as neither team would find the back of the net. Elmira fired 10 first period shots at the Neumann goal, but Fair stood tall to keep the Soaring Eagles off the board as the game headed to intermission knotted at 0-0.
Elmira would be rewarded for its territorial dominance early in the second stanza. The Soaring Eagles scored just 45 seconds into the frame to take a 1-0 lead, then added two more tallies later in the period to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
The Knights looked to get back into the game in the final period of play, but Elmira continued its strong play, outshooting the Knights by a count of 21-4 in the frame. The Soaring Eagles would tack on an insurance marker 49 seconds into the period and cruise to the comfortable 4-0 win.
Neumann (12-9-2, 9-5-1 UCHC) returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a rematch versus Elmira. Puck-drop is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
