AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Neumann University baseball team opened the 2018 season with a doubleheader sweep of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in Florida on Sunday. The Knights won the first game 15-4 and the second 10-4.
In the first game,
Cody MacNair went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. He hit a three-run homerun as part of a nine-run fifth inning.
Zach Ray opened his collegiate career going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scores.
Grant Wallace started the game and went 4.0 innings for the win. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out three.
Phil Sanborn went 2.0 innings in his Knights debut.
Taylor Reynolds went one inning in the win.
Neumann scored a run in each of the first three innings.
Dan Padilla hit a solo homerun in the first inning to get things started.
Duncan Balara had a two-run single in the fourth inning.
Andrew La Rosa had a two-run double as part of the nine-run fifth inning.
In game two,
John Schoelkopf went 3-for-4. Ray followed his first game performance with another three hits.
Matt McLaughlin hit a solo homerun in the sixth inning.
The Knights scattered their 10 runs over the second through seventh innings.
Jared Morris went 3.1 innings in his first start for Neumann. He allowed five runs, two earned, on seven hits. He struck out four.
Isaiah Morales picked up the win for the Knights in 3.2 innings of work.
Neumann (2-0) will face Rose-Hulman tomorrow at 11:30 AM as the spring break trip continues.
