ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In a non-conference matchup in sunny and warm Florida, the Neumann University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Capital University by a score of 19-9 on Wednesday afternoon.

Calie Swegon carried the Knights attack on the day, scoring four times in the loss. Five other Neumann players recorded single tallies, while Lydia Beckman led team with four draw controls. Gabby Curry made the start in goal, making 13 saves in the defeat.

The opening five minutes saw the two teams trade a pair of goals, with Swegon tallying her first two markers of the game for the Knights. From there though, Capital would control play the remainder of the half. The Crusaders outscored the Knights 8-3 the rest of the period and took a 10-5 lead to the halftime break. Capital carried a 20-12 edge in shots into the intermission.

The Crusaders continued their strong play to open the second stanza, recording the half's first four goals to widen their lead to 14-5. Neumann replied with a pair of goals from Courtney Petrucelli and Kaitlyn Conrad to get the score back to 14-7, but that was as close as the Knights would get. The Crusaders outscored Neumann 5-2 the rest of the way and cruised to the 19-9 win.

Neumann (1-3) will return home on Saturday, March 3rd for a home non-conference game versus Alvernia University. Game-time is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
