ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team edged Nazareth College 3-2 on Friday evening in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Liam Board put the Knights on the board just 50 seconds into the game off a pass from
Zac Boyle. Later in the period on the power play, the Golden Flyers tied the game at one and the teams went into the first intermission.
Joe Mitchell netted a shorthanded goal 3:58 into the second period for a 2-1 Neumann lead. Board notched his second point of the game with the assist.
Glenn Florczak put Neumann up 3-1 with a goal 2:15 before the second intermission off an assist from
Connor Annett. Nazareth pulled to within one with a goal 45 seconds before the clock ran out on the second period.
Neither team would find the back of the net in the third period. Neumann killed off two penalties in the period. The Golden Flyers pulled their goalie with the man advantage with 1:34 left in regulation, but
Matt Gibney made the big saves to preserve the lead and pick up the win. Gibney made 37 saves to earn the win. Nazareth outshot Neumann 39-25.
Neumann (8-13-2, 7-5-2 UCHC) will host No. 9/8 Utica tomorrow evening in UCHC action. The puck is slated to drop at 7:00 PM.
