Knights Split with Wolverines in Doubleheader

DOVER, Del. – The Neumann University baseball team split a doubleheader at Wesley College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Knights won the first game 6-5. The Wolverines took the second game 7-3.
 
Phil Sanborn started the first game for the Knights, going 5.1 innings in the no-decision. Kutter Endy picked up the win out of the bullpen. The senior went 1.2 hitless innings and struck out two.
 
Wesley took a 3-0 lead after four innings. Neumann scored its first run in the fifth inning. Zach Ray led off with a single and came around to score on a single by Joey Gorman.
 
The Wolverines added two more runs in the sixth inning for a 5-1 lead heading into the seventh. Duncan Balara led off the top of the seventh inning by reaching on an error. Ray traded places with Balara on a fielder's choice. The Knights would then hit four singles in a row. Tyler Ramos had a two-run single. Cody MacNair hit in the go-ahead run for a 6-5 lead.
 
Endy sent the Wolverines down in order in the bottom of the seventh for the come-back win.
 
In game two, Wesley took an early 2-0 lead on two solo homeruns and added an unearned run for a 3-0 lead after four inning. In the sixth inning, Neumann plated two runs to cut the lead to one. John Schoelkopf led off with a single and scored on a base hit by Joey Pedorenko. Pedorenko came around to score on a single by Ray.
 
The Wolverines added four insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 7-2 score. The Knights scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh, but they could not get a second comeback win.
 
Isaiah Morales started the second game and went 3.1 innings in the loss. He allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits. James Angellella did not allow a hit, but allowed three runs, two earned, as he walked three. Nick Henry and Endy wrapped up the game.
 
Neumann (7-5) will play Muhlenberg tomorrow in a doubleheader at Maplezone. Action gets underway at 1:00 PM.
