Baseball Goes 1-1 with Mules on Sunday

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team went 1-1 in a doubleheader with Muhlenberg College on Sunday afternoon at the Maplezone Sports Institute. The Knights won the first game 4-1 while the Mules won game two 5-3.
 
In the first game, John Schoelkopf went 3-for-4. Andrew La Rosa was 2-for-3. Grant Wallace got the win on the mound, going six innings and allowing just on unearned run while striking out three. Josh Cruz picked up the save.
 
The Knights got on the board quickly with three runs in the top of the first inning. Matt McLaughlin was hit by a pitch to lead off the game. Neumann took advantage of an error and plated two unearned runs for a 3-0 lead.
 
Neumann scored another unearned run in the third. Joey Pedorenko singled and scored on an error. Muhlenberg scored its only run in the fourth inning.
 
In the second game, Cody MacNair went 2-for-3 and knocked in three runs. Curt Yenchik also was 2-for-3. Matt Kelty started the game and went 2.1 innings. He allowed four runs, three earned. Jared Morris went the final 2.1 innings from the bullpen and allowed one run on two hits.
 
Neumann got on the board in the first inning as Schoelkopf walked and scored on a double by MacNair. MacNair then hit a two-run single in the second inning to score Yenchik and Eric Jester for a 3-0 lead.
 
Muhlenberg plated a run in the second and then three more in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Mules added an insurance run in the fifth inning.
 
Neumann (8-6) will try to open its home schedule tomorrow with a single game against Salisbury. Action is slated to get underway at 3:30 PM.
