ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team battled with No. 1 Rowan University and fell just short, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
Neumann scored its two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Matt McLaughlin led off by walking and then stole second.
John Schoelkopf followed with a single for two runners on base.
Cody MacNair knocked in McLaughlin with a single. Schoelkopf scored on an RBI groundout by
Joey Pedorenko.
Rowan responded with two runs in the top of the second inning. The teams remained tied at two until the Profs scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Knights had two runners on base with two outs.
Andrew Fowler hit a single to left field.
Colin Pollard attempted to score the tying run from second base, but was tagged out at home to end the game.
Grant Wallace started the game and went 5.2 innings in the loss. He allowed three runs on four hits and struck out four.
Kutter Endy pitched 2.2 innings stuck out four.
Isaiah Morales finished the eighth inning on the mound.
Neumann (8-10) will host Stockton tomorrow for a single non-conference game beginning at 3:30 PM.
