ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team picked up a 3-2 walk-off win over Cabrini University on Tuesday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup.
Each team scored a run in the first inning.
John Schoelkopf doubled with two outs in the bottom of the first and scored on a single by
Cody MacNair.
Zach Ray led off the second inning with a double. He came home to score while
Matt McLaughlin was caught in a rundown between first and second base. The Knights would hold the 2-1 lead until the ninth inning.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Cavaliers tied the game at two with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the ninth inning,
Andrew La Rosa and Schoelkopf opened the inning with back-to-back singles. MacNair was intentionally walked and the bases were loaded with no one out. With the infield drawn in,
Joey Pedorenko hit a deep fly ball to left field and La Rosa scored the winning run on the single.
Phil Sanborn started the game and went the first six innings. He allowed one run on eight hits and struck out four.
Kutter Endy pitched the seventh and eighth innings.
Josh Cruz picked up the win, pitching the ninth inning.
Pedorenko finished the game with four hits, including the game-winner. Schoelkopf had three hits. La Rosa and Ray each had a pair of hits.
Neumann (12-13, 3-0 CSAC) will face Cabrini for the second game of the conference series on Thursday afternoon. Action on the road gets underway at 3:00 PM.
