Women's Lacrosse Heads to Cabrini for CSAC Semifinals

5/1/2018 4:17:00 PM

ASTON, Pa. – After a convincing win over Keystone College in the opening round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs, the Neumann University women's lacrosse team will head to Cabrini University on Wednesday afternoon for a CSAC semifinal contest.

Fourth seeded Neumann made quick work of No. 5 Keystone this past Saturday, picking up the win by a score of 19-10 to advance to the semifinals. Allie Bee, Brittany Cassidy, Courtney Petrucelli and Calie Swegon all scored three goals apiece in the win, while goalie Gabby Curry made 13 saves.

The Knights will square off against first seeded Cabrini, who enter the postseason with a CSAC record of 8-0 this year. The Cavaliers will be well-rested after receiving a bye for the first round of the playoffs.

Neumann will look to reverse its fortunes versus Cabrini, who has had the Knights' number of late. Earlier this season, the Cavaliers took down Neumann by a score of 22-4 on April 4th. Swegon and Kaitlyn Conrad led the way for the Knights in the loss, each scoring twice.

The Knights have been carried offensively all season by Conrad, who leads the team in goals (78), assists (32) and points (110). Her 78 goals and 110 points are both program records for a season. Joining Conrad in the attack are Calie Swegon and Brittany Cassidy, who have each scored over 30 goals this season for Neumann. Swegon is second on the team in goals (40) and points (50) while Cassidy has been outstanding all over the field for the Knights. The junior midfielder is third on the team in goals (35) and points (45), and has also picked up a team-high 41 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers.

On the defensive end, Neumann relies on senior net-minder Gabby Curry. Earning first-team All-CSAC honors, Curry has gone 10-8 this season, making 192 saves on the season for a 12.74 goals against average. In addition to Curry, Lydia Beckman has also been outstanding on defense, picking up a team-high 52 draw controls to go along with 12 caused turnovers and 24 ground balls.

A win over Cabrini would send the Knights to the CSAC Championship on Saturday, May 5th. The winner of the Neumann/Cabrini game will take on the winner of No. 2 Marywood versus No. 3 Immaculata.
