WEST LAWN, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Cabrini University 7-5 on Friday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletics Conference (CSAC) postseason elimination game.
Phil Sanborn pitched the complete game for the win. He allowed five runs, three earned, on nine hits and struck out five.
The Cavaliers struck first with three runs, only one earned, in the top of the first inning.
The Knights tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the second.
Andrew La Rosa and
Zach Ray led off with back-to-back singles.
Andrew Fowler sacrificed both runners over.
Matt McLaughlin drew a walk to load the bases.
John Schoelkopf hit a sacrifice fly to center to score La Rosa.
Dan Padilla followed with a two-run double.
Cabrini took back the lead with a run in the fourth inning. Neumann knotted the game at four as La Rosa walked and stole second base. He scored on a single by Ray.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Knights added two more runs as Schoelkopf doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Padilla. Padilla scored on a single by
Curt Yenchik. Neumann added an insurance unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Cavalier scored one more run in the top of the ninth, but the Knights held on for the win.
Neumann (20-22) will face Gwynedd Mercy in the next elimination game at 7:00 PM.
