GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team wrapped up the regular season by dropping a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contests at Gwynedd Mercy University on Friday afternoon. Game scores were 6-1 and 12-9.
In the first game, the Griffins hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning for an early lead.
In the fifth inning,
Zach Ray led off with a triple and scored on a groundout by
Andrew Fowler.
Gwynedd Mercy responded with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-1 lead.
Josh Cruz started the game on the mound and went 3.0 innings. He allowed three runs on four hits.
Isaiah Morales went 2.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
Matt Kelty worked a 1-2-3 sixth inning.
In the second game, the Knights scored first as
Curt Yenchik walked and scored on a fielder's choice by Fowler in the second inning. In the third inning,
Joey Pedorenko walked and scored on a bases loaded walk by
Duncan Balara.
The Griffins score a run in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.
Yenchik hit a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth after
Joey Gorman doubled to lead off the inning to take back the lead. In the sixth,
Andrew La Rosa tripled and scored on a single by
Dan Padilla. Padilla scored on a single by Gorman to take a 6-3 lead.
After the Griffins got a run back in the bottom of the sixth, Balara tripled to lead off the seven and scored on a single by
Joe Nepi for a 7-4 game.
The Griffins then went to work and scored four runs in the home half of the seven and eighth innings. The Knights scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but could not complete a comeback. Padilla hit a solo homerun in the ninth.
Phil Sanborn started and took the no decision as he allowed three runs on five hits. Six other Knights saw time on the mound in the game.
David Alvarez ended up with the loss, going 0.1 innings and allowed three hits on three runs.
Neumann wraps up the regular season 19-21 overall and 10-6 in the conference. The Knights will be the No. 3 seed in the CSAC postseason, beginning on Wednesday.
