GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team dropped the first contest of the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) baseball tournament at Gwynedd Mercy 14-6 on Wednesday afternoon.
Cody MacNair had two hits in the game, bringing his career total to 193, to pass Kevin Flanigan '12 and set the program record for hits.
The Knights opened the game with two unearned runs in the top of the first inning.
Dan Padilla and
Andrew La Rosa both reached on errors and came around to score on singles by
Joey Gorman and
Joey Pedorenko.
Neumann added three more unearned runs in the top of the third to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
Duncan Balara was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Pedorenko.
Andrew Fowler followed with a two-run single to score MacNair and
Curt Yenchik.
The Griffins hit a bases clearing triple in the fourth inning to pull within 5-3.
In the top of the fifth inning, Pedorenko led off with a single, followed by MacNair's second single of the game for the career record. Pedorenko would score on a sacrifice fly by Yenchik for a 6-3 score.
Gwynedd Mercy took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Griffins added three more runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the 14-6 final.
Grant Wallace started the game and went 4.0+ innings. He allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits.
Kutter Endy took the loss, going 2.0+ innings. He allowed five runs on seven hits.
Isaiah Morales went the final 2.0 innings, allowed four runs on five hits.
Neumann (19-22) will face Cabrini in the first elimination game on Friday. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM at Owls Field in West Lawn, Pa.
