Baseball Readies for CSAC Championships

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team will begin its bid for the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship this week.
 
The Knights, the No. 3 seed, will head to No. 2 seeded Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday for the first game of the week. No. 1 seeded Keystone will host No. 4 seeded Cabrini on Wednesday.
 
The double-elimination action will move to Owls Field in West Lawn, Pa. for games on Friday and Saturday. The 11:00 AM game on Friday will feature the winners from Wednesday. The winner of that game will move to the CSAC Championship game on Saturday. The 3:00 PM game will be the first elimination game. The 7:00 PM game will be the two teams remaining with one loss and will eliminate one more team.
 
Saturday's action will get underway at 12:00 PM with the winner of the 11:00 AM and the 7:00 PM games from Friday. Should be teams have one loss after the first game, the final and deciding game will be played 30 minutes are the conclusion of the 12:00 PM game.
 
 
Against the opponents:
 
No. 1 Keystone (29-8)
Keystone is currently ranked No. 19 in the latest ABCA poll and No. 21 in the latest NCBWA/D3baseball.com poll. Neumann dropped its two contests against Keystone this season. The doubleheader was play in La Plume, Pa. with the Giants winning 6-0 in game one and 10-9 in game two. In the second game, the Knights battled back and took a brief lead in the top of the eighth inning, 9-8.
 
 
No. 2 Gwynedd Mercy (18-12)
These two teams met to wrap up the regular season on Friday at GMU. The Griffins took both games, 6-1 and 12-9. The teams went back and forth in the second game, but four runs in the seventh and eighth innings for Gwynedd Mercy proved to be the difference.
 
 
No. 4 Cabrini (20-7)
The Knights won both contests against the Cavaliers this season, 3-2 and 7-3. In the 3-2 win, Joey Pedorenko knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Josh Cruz picked up the win in relief. Grant Wallace got the win in the 7-3 game.
 
 
The Knights
Neumann is being led by John Schoelkopf at the plate. The junior is batting .444 over 37 contests with 63 hits, including seven doubles and three triples. Cody MacNair is batting .335 over the 40 contests. The senior has 53 hits with eight doubles and four homeruns. Curt Yenchik leads the Knights with five homeruns.
 
On the mound, Wallace is currently 5-1 in 11 appearances. In. 46.2 innings, he has a 2.70 ERA and has struck out a team-high 32 batters. Cruz is 5-2 in 11 appearances with a 3.90 ERA in 32.1 innings.

Admission:  $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.  Credit cards will be accepted ($1.00 convenience charge at the game per transaction)


Parking:  Located behind the scoreboard in left field; on the street, paved parking lot, and grass lot


Please note:  Owls Field is lawn chair seating only.  Fans will not be allowed to sit in the upper or lower decks connected to the concession stand/press box.
Concession stand will be open throughout the tournament, featuring hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and assorted snacks and drinks.
