WENHAM, Mass. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team picked up two wins in its first day of the 2018 season at the Gordon Invitational on Friday evening.
The Knights battled in the first match and came away with a 3-2 win over host Gordon. The teams went back and forth with Neumann taking sets one (25-19), three (25-20) and five (15-9). The Fighting Scots took sets two (26-24) and four (25-23).
Melanie Malseed led the offense with 25 kills while
Rachael Hoffman added 16.
Alex Koppany handed out 31 assists and
Rachel Cray tallied 24.
Hayley Glah led five Knights in double-digits in digs with 25. Malseed tallied 23.
Kirsten Longueira and
Carlee Herrin each had 15 and Koppany added 12.
In the second match of the evening, Neumann defeated Framingham State in straight sets, 25-15, 25-11, 25-23.
Malseed again paced the offense with 15 kills while adding 10 digs. The junior hit .536 in the match with her 15 kills and no errors on 28 attempts. Cray handed out 20 assists and Koppany tallied 15.
Neumann (2-0) will face Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Smith College tomorrow at 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM in the second day of the Gordon Invitational.
