ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team hosted the first night of its Knights Invitational on Friday evening. The Knights battled, but fell to Catholic University 3-2 and Salisbury University 3-0.
In the first match, the Cardinals took the first two sets 25-19 and 25-23. The Knights battled back to win the next two sets, 25-23 and 27-25, to force the fifth set. CUA took the deciding set 15-10.
Melanie Malseed tallied 20 kills and 26 digs in the win.
Ariana Pena and
Rachael Hoffman each added 12 kills.
Hayley Glah notched 15 digs.
Carlee Herrin had 13 digs while
Kirsten Longueira and
Alex Koppany each added 10.
Rachel Cray handed out 26 assists and Koppany dished out 23.
In the second match, the Seagulls won in straight sets 25-23, 25-11 and 25-20. Malseed once again led the Knights with 13 kills and 13 digs. Cray handed out 22 assists.
Neumann (6-6) remains home for day two of the Knights Invitational on Saturday. The Knights will face NYU at 10:00 AM and Scranton at 2:00 PM.
