ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team fell in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon by a score of 2-0 to visiting Virginia Wesleyan College.
Sophomore goalie
Lizzie Yu was the standout of the day for Neumann, making 13 saves in the loss.
Looking for its second win this weekend after a big victory on Friday evening over William Patterson, Neumann could not find any traction on a wet and rainy Sunday. Virginia Wesleyan took the play to the Knights from the opening whistle, outshooting the hosts by a count of 11-1 in the opening half of play. Only solid goaltending from Yu kept Neumann in the game, as the sophomore made six saves to keep the score just 2-0 heading to halftime.
The Knights hoped to get back into the game in the second half, but the Marlins continued to control play. The visitors outshot Neumann 9-1 in the second half and kept the Knights off the board to seal the 2-0 win. Yu was great again in the final 35 minutes, making seven second half saves.
Neumann (3-3) returns to the field on Wednesday, September 26
th when it travels to Swarthmore College. The game is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
