ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell on a late shot, 73-72, to Wesley College on Wednesday evening in an Atlantic East Conference match-up.
Waheem Lowman led the Knights with 19 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Nasir Cassel hit four three-pointers en route to 18 points.
Isaiah Wilmore tallied 11 points.
Sanoussi Abdourhamane added nine points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
The teams traded baskets throughout the first half, with the largest lead just five points and the teams were tied 10 times throughout the first 20 minutes. A Wolverine jumper in the final minute of the half put Wesley up by two, 36-34, at the break.
The Knights scored the first six points of the second half for a four point lead. After a few three-pointers by both teams, Neumann took a 43-42 edge and went on an 11-3 run for a 54-45 score with eight minutes left in regulation.
Neumann still held a nine point advantage, 66-57, with four minutes on the clock when Wesley went on a 12-2 run to take a one-point lead, 69-68, with 1:29 on the clock. This would lead to a nail-biting finish.
Lowman hit two free throws with 1:14 remaining to take back a one point advantage. The Wolverines came down the court and hit a layup with 38 seconds on the clock. Abdourhamane answered with a layup for to put the Knights back up by one with 20 seconds. Wesley took the ball down the court and hit the eventual game-winner with eight seconds remaining. Neumann had a last second look, but the ball would not fall, giving Wesley the one point win.
Neumann (9-10, 0-6 Atlantic East) will head to Marymount as the second half of the conference schedule begins. Action is slated to get underway at 3:00 PM.
