ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University men's basketball team dropped a 69-66 Atlantic East Conference contest to Marymount University on Saturday afternoon.
Mark Perry led the Knights with 22 points in the game.
Waheem Lowman and
Isaiah Wilmore each added 10 points.
Each team made runs in the first half. Down by one, the Knights took a 5-4 score and went on a 7-0 run for an 11-5 lead. The Saints answered and went on a 16-4 run for a 21-15 advantage. Neumann scored the next six points for a 21-all game. The teams traded baskets over the final nine minutes of the half. Marymount held a 32-30 lead at the break.
Midway through the second half, the Saints built an eight point advantage, 52-44. Marymount led by as many 12, 60-48, with 6:22 left on the clock. The Knights battled back to within four, 65-61, with four minutes left in regulation. The Saints connected on a dunk with 1:53 remaining and then neither team was able to find the net for a minute-and-a-half. Lowman connected on a layup and
Raquan Brown-Johnson hit a three to pull within one, 67-66, with 14 seconds on the clock. The Saints hit two free throws to extend the lead back to three. Neumann had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but the ball didn't fall and Marymount held on for the win.
Neumann (9-11, 0-7 Atlantic East) will return home on Wednesday and will host Immaculata for an Atlantic East doubleheader with the women. Before tip-off around 8:00 PM, the Knights will honor its seniors for this season.
