Neumann Basketball To Host Annual Hoops From The Heart Clinic

1/4/2019 11:16:00 AM

**Updated on 1/20/19**

Due to the expected weather conditions on Monday morning and Neumann's delayed opening, the Hoops from the Heart Clinic start has been pushed back one hour. The clinic will now begin at 10:00 AM and wrap up 12:00 PM.

Drop off will begin at 9:30 AM in The Mirenda Center.

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's and women's basketball teams will participate in the 18th annual "Hoops from the Heart" Martin Luther King Day Basketball Clinic. The clinic will take place on January 21st, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Mirenda Center for Sport Spirituality and Character Development, the home of the Knights, on the campus of Neumann University.

The clinic is open to boys and girls in grades 1-8. The cost is $30 per child and each participant is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item. The non-perishable food items will go to the Life Center of Eastern Delaware County, one of Community Actions Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) emergency housing programs. The Life Center is located at 63rd and Market streets, Upper Darby, and houses 50 homeless individuals and serves over 150 residents each year.  The Life Center also operates a feeding program that serves 200 - 250 people daily.

All proceeds raised benefit CAADC programs, which include emergency housing, social services, employment training and life skills training. In addition to operating shelters and daycare facilities for individuals and families, the CAADC also provides many vital services including welfare-to-work programs, and food and fuel assistance.

The camp will be led by the Neumann University basketball teams. The coaches and players will go over comprehensive skills for developing players featuring individual instruction, stations and a free T-Shirt. All fundamentals will be covered, and players will be grouped according to age and ability.

Four basketball clinics will be held throughout the county. In addition to Neumann, Cabrini University, Haverford College and Widener University will also host on January 21.

"Hoops from the Heart", part of the MLK Day of Service, was started in 2002 and has since raised over
$100,000 for CAADC programs.
