ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team dropped its second game of the weekend to visiting Sacred Heart University on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 13-4 in non-conference action.
Neumann received goals from four different scorers on the afternoon, including
Syd Ladwig,
Sid Squires,
Jackie Schneider and
Mollie Johnson.
Katelyn Brown chipped in with two assists, while
Alexa Lamplugh and
Taylor Schwandt combined for 40 saves in goal.
The Knights started the game strong when Ladwig found a loose puck in the slot and deposited it into the net just 2:31 into the opening period to give Neumann a 1-0 lead. The goal would be the final offense the hosts would generate in the period though, as the Pioneers dominated the shot-count 17-7. Sacred Heart answered back with a goal of its own on the power play at 15:06 and the game headed to intermission tied at 1-1.
The Pioneers took firm control of the contest in the second stanza. Using five unanswered goals in the period, the visitors jumped out to a commanding 6-1 lead that they would never relinquish. The Knights got a bit of consolation with a goal from Squires with under a minute to play in the period, but the game headed to the third with Neumann trailing 6-2.
Sacred Heart continued to dominate play in the final frame. The Pioneers tacked on seven more tallies in the period and cruised to the comfortable 13-4 victory. Schneider and Johnson picked up late power-play goals for the Knights, but it was far too little, too late for the hosts.
Neumann (2-10-0, 1-6 UCHC) will look to regroup for its next contest on Tuesday, January 8
th when it takes on United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) rival Lebanon Valley College. Puck-drop in Hershey is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
