ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team fell at Marymount University 3-0 on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East Conference action, snapping a seven game winning streak.
Melanie Malseed led the Knights with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Rachel Cray handed out 21 assists.
Alex Koppany tallied 10 digs.
The Saints took the first set 25-12. In the second set, Marymount took a 4-3 led and tallied seven straight points for an 11-3 advantage. Kills by
Bre Hickey, Malseed and a service ace by
Carlee Herrin stopped the run. Another kill by Hickey later in the set brought the Knights to within three, 18-15. The teams traded points down the stretch and Marymount held on for the 25-20 second set win.
The Knights opened set three by scoring four of the first five points. The Saints answered with eight straight points to take a 9-4 lead. Marymount increased its lead to 19-8. Neumann tallied five consecutive points. After three more points for the Saints, and a 22-13 score, the Knights rattled off seven points to pull within two, 22-20. A kill by
Maria Brown got Neumann to within one, 24-23, but a Saint's kill sealed the match win and spoiled the Knight's comeback attempt.
Neumann (12-10, 2-1 Atlantic East) will look to start a new winning streak on Saturday when it heads to Wesley College for a conference match-up beginning at 1:00 PM.
