DOVER, Del. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team defeated Wesley College in straight sets, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action.
Melanie Malseed tallied 11 kills and 12 digs in the win.
Jess Charlier and
Ariana Pena each added nine kills.
Rachel Cray handed out 30 assists.
Hayley Glah anchored the defense with 14 digs.
Bre Hickey tallied 13 digs and
Alex Koppany added 11.
Neumann won the first set 25-20. The Knights slowly built a lead throughout the set. A kill by Pena put Neumann up 1-0 in the match.
The Wolverines took an early 3-0 lead in the second set and increased their lead to 8-3. The Knights worked their way back and tied the set at 10 on a kill by Cray. Neumann would take a lead by a few points and Wesley would answer, staying within striking distance. But in the end, the Knights pulled away and won 25-21 on a kill by Malseed.
The teams started set three, similar to the first two sets. With Neumann holding a 16-12 lead, the Knights rattled off six straight points for a 22-12 advantage. After a kill by Wesley, Neumann came away with the 25-12 win after a few miscues by the Wolverines.
Neumann (13-10, 3-1 Atlantic East) will host Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday evening. The Knights will celebrate their seniors before the 7:00 PM conference match.
